What we do!

The New Zealand Branch of the Australasian Cochrane Centre offers assistance to all those involved in Cochrane activities within New Zealand.
The Cochrane branch supports other New Zealand based Cochrane entities such as the Cochrane Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility Group and the Cochrane Primary Healthcare Field.
We also provide training for authors by offering free introductory workshops, as well as one to one advice. Additionally, the branch offers assistance in the interpretation and dissemination of Cochrane reviews from The Cochrane Library

For Consumers

The Ministry of Health provide all New Zealanders with free access to The Cochrane Library. The Cochrane Library is one of the few resources on healthcare interventions that is independently funded and is evidenced based. This allows objective assessment of many healthcare treatments available today. This includes many complimentary and alternative therapies such as Chinese herbal medicines, acupuncture, music therapies etc.

Consumers also play a large role within the collaboration in the generation and promotion of systematic reviews. Every systematic review that is produced is read and commented on by an interested consumer. This makes sure that the reviews address the particular concerns of consumers as well as making sure the language used is understandable for the educated consumer. All reviews also contain a plain language summary. These summaries are always critiqued and often written by consumers. Consumers wishing to participate within the collaboration are encouraged to contact the consumer network

For Authors

New Zealanders have a very strong history of activity within the Cochrane Collaboration. There are over 186 reviews available on the Library authored by New Zealanders with representatives from all disciplines as well as from all universities. The NZ Branch provides training and assistance to these authors along with that supplied by each of the Cochrane review groups. We run two free training workshops per year for registered Cochrane authors. These workshops teach the methodology behind systematic reviews along with providing information about the collaboration itself for first time authors. Click here to see when the next workshop is scheduled. Please contact the branch if you wish to become an author for the Cochrane Collaboration and we will assist you in any way we can.
